How to use it
- Paste a caption or a list of hashtags.
- See how many hashtags there are, how many are different, and which ones repeat.
- Check the rules per platform, then use Remove repeats or Copy hashtags.
The rules that actually exist
Instagram limits posts and reels to 5 hashtags. It announced the change in December 2025 and asks people to use specific tags instead of generic ones like #reels or #explore.
YouTube ignores every hashtag on a video if there are more than 60. Up to 3 hashtags can appear by the title, picked by YouTube, and hashtags must relate to the video; misleading or unrelated ones can get it removed.
TikTok and X don't publish a number, but every hashtag uses characters of the caption limit.
What counts as a hashtag
A # followed by letters, numbers or underscores, with at least one letter: #2026 alone isn't a hashtag, #2026goals is. Spaces and punctuation end a tag, which is why #new york becomes #new. Repeats are matched without caring about capitals, so #Travel and #travel are the same tag.
Questions
- Should I use the maximum?
- No. A few specific tags that describe the post do more than a long generic list, and on Instagram anything over 5 isn't allowed any more.
- Does it work with hashtags in other languages?
- Yes. Letters from any alphabet count, so #東京 and #über are found.
- Is my caption stored?
- No. It's counted in your browser.
