How to use it
- Choose or drop a picture (it stays in your browser).
- Pick a size, such as YouTube thumbnail, Vertical cover or YouTube banner, or type your own.
- Choose how it fits: Crop (drag the picture to move it), Blurred background or Colour background.
- Press Download. Tick Keep under 2 MB for files you'll upload from a phone.
The sizes, and where they come from
YouTube thumbnail: 16:9. 1280×720 is the common size; YouTube accepts up to 3840×2160 and needs at least 640 pixels of width. Upload limit 2 MB from a phone, 50 MB from a computer.
Vertical cover (9:16), 1080×1920: Shorts, Reels and TikTok covers. YouTube's Shorts thumbnails are 9:16 with a minimum height of 640 pixels.
YouTube banner: at least 2048×1152 and 6 MB or smaller. Only the middle 1235×338 is shown everywhere, so the tool draws that safe area for you; keep names and logos inside it.
Square (1:1) and portrait (4:5) at 1080 pixels wide are the usual feed-post sizes, and 1920×1080 fits landscape posts and stream graphics.
Crop or fit?
Crop fills the whole frame and cuts what doesn't fit; good for photos with room around the subject. Blurred background keeps the whole picture and fills the gaps with a soft blurred copy of it, which is how a vertical clip usually looks inside a 16:9 frame. Colour background does the same with a plain colour, useful for logos and screenshots.
Questions
- Is my picture uploaded?
- No. The resizing happens on a canvas in your browser and the download is created on your device.
- Why is the file bigger than the original?
- A small picture enlarged to 1920 pixels has more pixels to store. Lower the quality or tick Keep under 2 MB.
- Which format should I use?
- JPG for photos and thumbnails (smaller files). PNG for graphics with sharp text or flat colours.
